Job Description

The main duties and responsibilities of the IT Specialist will be to undertake Database development, maintenance and management related to international nurseries at the ICARDA research site in Lebanon.

 Assist in the development, periodical update, proper use and maintenance of the database for International Nurseries (IN) to collect, manage and share data.

 Assist in collating and incorporating updates on crop menus of international nurseries from plant breeders for circulation to co-operators.

 Assist in updating the crop menus in the IN database for access and download by co- operators.

 Follow-up, collate and organize IN requests from co-operators to facilitate timely allocation of nurseries by the plant breeders.

 Prepare a master file of IN allocations from plant breeders to facilitate timely IN preparation and dispatch.

 Compile and update contact details of co-operators and germplasm import/export regulation of the respective partner countries.

 Prepare and communicate detailed dispatch request forms for quarantine clearance by the seed health laboratory.

 Assist in follow-up and communication with plant breeders and IN co-operators on trial design, field book preparation and data collection, analysis, management and sharing.

 Prepare shipping forms, communication and coordination with shipping companies for IN dispatch.

 Perform any other relevant job assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

B.Sc in computer sciences with 5 years experience in programming, database development and/or agriculture statistics and research.

 M.SC. degree in computer sciences with 3 years experiences in programming, database development and agriculture statistics or research will be a plus.

 Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

 Good written and oral communication skills in Arabic/French will be an advantage.

 Ability to work effectively in a team in a multicultural environment.

 Knowledge of the Breeding Management System (BMS) developed under the CGIAR Generation Challenge program is an advantage.
